Erica Diggs brings a rare combination of gemological education, jewelry design knowledge, bench experience, stone-setting skill, manufacturing insight, and real-world industry experience to every appraisal assignment.
She is a GIA Graduate Gemologist and completed the Gemological Institute of America's Jewelry Design & Technology program, where she studied jewelry design, 3D CAD modeling, digital rendering, jewelry engineering, and manufacturing. Her professional background also includes bench jewelry, fine-jewelry fabrication, diamond setting, pavé and micro-pavé setting, custom jewelry development, and working directly with the professionals who manufacture, repair, sell, and service fine jewelry.
Erica also earned degrees in marketing from Berkeley College. Her education in marketing, combined with her technical jewelry training and industry experience, has supported her ability to build jewelry brands, understand luxury consumers, communicate value, and serve a diverse clientele.
Erica has worked in the jewelry industry since 2011. During that time, she has served private clients, entertainers, professional athletes, collectors, and other high-profile clientele. Her experience extends beyond examining a finished piece. She understands how jewelry is designed, engineered, manufactured, assembled, set, finished, repaired, and replaced.
That depth of experience gives her a practical advantage when documenting custom pieces, complex construction, diamond-intensive jewelry, designer jewelry, grillz, watches, and items that may require specialized manufacturing knowledge.
Before entering the jewelry industry, Erica served as a United States Air Force military medic and deployed to Iraq. As a disabled combat veteran, she built her professional life around preparation, precision, accountability, service, and respect for the people who trust her with valuable property.
UGA Labs, or United Gemological Appraisals, was established as a professional valuation practice. Fees are never a commission, a referral payment or a percentage of appraised value. Every appraisal is developed for its stated purpose using appropriate research, professional judgment, and clearly defined assignment conditions. Any relevant prior business relationship or financial interest will be disclosed when required.
Every engagement is confidential. Client property, photography, reports and personal details are never shared, published or used for marketing without written permission.
More Than Gemological Knowledge
Gemological education is essential, but a finished piece of jewelry must also be understood as a manufactured object. Erica's background at the bench allows her to evaluate details that may be overlooked when jewelry is considered only from the perspective of its gemstones.
- Jewelry Construction
- Understanding how a piece was fabricated, cast, assembled, finished, and repaired.
- Stone Setting
- Recognizing pavé, micro-pavé, prong, bezel, channel, invisible, and other setting methods.
- CAD and Engineering
- Understanding how custom jewelry is digitally designed, engineered, prototyped, and prepared for manufacturing.
- Manufacturing Complexity
- Recognizing the labor, specialized skills, materials, and processes that may affect replacement.
- Gemological Examination
- Evaluating diamonds, colored gemstones, treatments, laboratory-grown materials, simulants, and relevant quality characteristics when reasonably possible.

The Meaning of Our Seal
Our seal features an American eagle, stars, a diamond, and the colors navy, red, and white. These elements represent the company's foundation in military service and its commitment to professional gemological work. The eagle represents vigilance and responsibility. The diamond represents the specialized field we serve. The word "United" reflects service to people, families, professionals, and communities.
“An appraisal is a professional opinion, in writing, that someone else may have to rely on. It deserves to be built carefully.”
